1.2 Data and Information Collection and Use.
1.3 Your Information That We Collect Online.
Prior to your providing any information through the Widgets, we may receive information available to us through weblogs about your traffic on web sites. This information obtained through weblogs is only used to help us analyze click through rates and other internal measures. We also collect information about you through your responses to questions through the Widgets. This information may include, for example, your answers to poll questions, general demographic data, and your IP address.
We collect information through the use of “Cookies.” Every computer accessing the Web Application or the Widget is assigned a different Cookie. The information collected by Cookies helps us dynamically generate content on the Widget.
Most browser software can be set to reject all Cookies. Most browsers offer instructions on how to reset the browser to reject Cookies in the “Help” section of the toolbar. If you reject our Cookies, the Web site may not work properly.
1.4 How Your Data is Used and To Whom it is Disclosed.
CivicScience is a for-profit corporation that earns money by administering polls and opinion questions, some of which may be sponsored by outside parties, collecting the answers from those polls and questions (“Data”), selling the Data collected in an aggregated form and by providing aggregated Data and analysis services to researchers, commercial entities and other organizations. CivicScience combines Data gleaned from your answers and cookies with the Data of other users and develops proprietary databases containing the Data. CivicScience is in the business of analyzing, selling and/or redistributing aggregated Data or certain parts thereof. In no case will your Data be sold or shared with a third party prior to being combined with Data from many other users, and it is not possible for a third-party customer to determine or isolate Data from a particular user or individual.
In addition, we may aggregate data about users of our site and use it for statistical purposes. This information helps us to better understand our site’s and Widget’s users and how to improve our site and our offerings. No organization that utilizes our polling software monitors how a particular individual voted on a particular issue or feels about a certain topic (although CivicScience’s databases may record a change in your opinion over time). Instead, we can provide valuable information regarding, for example, “How women between the ages of 25 and 35 from Central Indiana voted” on a particular issue or “How many men with household incomes less than $50,000 per year prefer pie over cake”.
CivicScience does not link an individual’s personal identity together with the opinion Data. In fact, other than your IP address and information from the cookie placed on your machine, CivicScience only has information that you have voluntarily supplied to us by answering questions posed to you. We will not disclose your IP address to any third party, other than our contractors or agents who are under an obligation of confidentiality. Your IP address will only be used to provide an estimate of your geo location, for example, that you are near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Personally identifiable information, such as your email address, is not collected and stored in our databases.
From time to time, however, we may disclose the information collected from you, including personal information, to fulfill legal or regulatory obligations or if we determine such disclosure is legally advisable or necessary to protect our rights and the rights of others, or to prevent harm.
Our policies limit access to unaggregated user information that is collected from our Widgets to our employees and agents and the employees and/or agents of our affiliates and business partners who need the information to fulfill their business responsibilities, and who are under obligations of confidentiality. In some cases, this may require your information to be sent to other countries. By supplying your information to CivicScience, including information supplied through this web site, you consent to your information being transferred to CivicScience, its affiliates, vendors or agents. Vendors and other outside contractors we engage are subject to our contractual requirements for safeguarding personal information.
1.5 We Use Reasonable Security Safeguards.
CivicScience employs commercially reasonable security measures, including advanced technology, to protect personal information collected against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. CivicScience reviews and enhances its security systems in a commercially reasonable manner and as it deems necessary. Even with such technology, no web site or database is 100% secure. CivicScience cannot and does not guarantee that such security measures will prevent loss, misuse and/or alteration of information under its control.
1.6 Other Web Sites.
CivicScience is not responsible for the privacy practices employed by Web Applications where the Widget is provided. CivicScience does not guarantee, approve, or endorse any information, material, services, or products contained on these Web Applications. CivicScience is not responsible for any content on sites linked from or to the Web Applications.
1.7 Your Rights.
1.8 Protecting Children.
We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of thirteen. We will remove from our files any personally identifiable information of anyone we discover to be under thirteen years old. Individuals under the age of thirteen are expressly forbidden from participating in our polls for any reason.
